About collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, and is essential for structure, repair, and maintenance. It makes up our hair, skin and nails, joints, bones and digestive lining, and other internal organs. Approximately 90% of our collagen is made up of Type 1, and the remaining 10% is found in places such as cartilage, bone marrow, and various cells. There are over 15 different types of collagen in the body, and our bodies will use collagen-building amino acids to build these other types if required.

Yes, our collagen is hydrolysed, meaning we use an enzymatic process to break the gelatine into smaller, easily absorbable peptides. This process makes our collagen easy to digest and assimilate.

Our Bovine collagen is largely Type 1 with a small amount of Type 3. Our marine is solely Type 1. 

Our grass-fed collagen and gelatine are nutritionally very similar. They have similar amino acid profiles and protein content; both are virtually odourless and tasteless, making them extremely versatile. The main difference is in how you use the products: our collagen products will not gel in cool liquids; they mix well into hot or cold drinks and recipes. Our gelatine will gel in cold liquids so it is great as a thickener for soups and stews and to make cool culinary creations like healthy gummies, jelly and desserts.

There is very little difference: both are high in protein and rich in Type 1 collagen which is the most abundant collagen in the body (bovine also contains a little Type 3). The main difference is the source, and it’s down to personal preference which you prefer.

The Pure and Marine Collagen are great all-rounders and contain the highest amount of collagen. If you are looking for a little extra support our collagen blends contain slightly less collagen, but other vitamins, minerals and herbs which work in synergy for specific needs. Collagen is pure protein (over 90%); it contains no carbohydrates, sugar, or fats, so is suitable for low carbohydrate or ketogenic diets. Add it to your bulletproof coffee!

Sourcing

The bovine collagen and gelatine are sourced from select farms in South America (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) which employ traditional ranching methods, raising the cattle on grass and pasture. This traditional system avoids the use of hormones, antibiotics and GMOs. Check our Farming page to find out more.

Our Marine Collagen is sourced from Molva Molva (Ling) fish, line-caught off the south coast of France. This is not a fish on the overfished list, and we avoid sourcing from fish farms, where the fish are heavily contaminated with hormones and other toxins.

Yes, our bovine collagen is all sourced from grass-fed cattle in traditional ranching environments, which is better for the animals and the environment. We never use deforested land, only natural, pre-existing farmland. Our marine collagen is incredibly sustainable as it is derived from the skin and other parts of the fish that would otherwise be a waste product.

How do I use your products?

Our pure and marine collagen are odourless, tasteless and will not change the texture of whatever they are added to, making them the perfect addition to hot or cold drinks, breakfast, or baking. Our collagen blends (except digestive) do contain some natural flavouring so work best just with some water, juice, or in a smoothie.

The gelatine will gel in cold liquids. You can use it as a thickener for soups and stews, desserts or as an ingredient to make healthy fruit snacks, jelly and marshmallows. Check out our BLOG for recipes using the gelatine powder.

Yes, you can alternate on different days, or combine products for extra support. If you want a little extra collagen you can also use ½-1 tablespoon of Pure Collagen alongside the collagen blends.

Whenever you find it convenient to use is the best time. You can use it in the morning for a good hit of protein to stabilize blood sugar levels, post-workout for repair and recovery, or in the evening for additional recovery overnight.

We recommend using 1/1.5 servings a day. If you are new to collagen, or sensitive, then start with smaller amounts and build up to a full serving or more a day. You can find serving sizes printed on the labels and under ‘Directions’ on our product pages.

Yes, it is a food supplement, and provides a rich source of nutrition and ‘pre-digested’ protein. 

This really depends on the individual and what you are taking the products for. We would recommend using at least 1-2 tubs to see benefits and taking it on a regular long-term basis for best results.

Storage and Use-By

In a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. 

The ‘best before’ dates are printed on the tubs, and if they are stored correctly, products should last up to this date.

We have removed the scoops in our bid to reduce the use of single-use plastic in our products. You can find the serving sizes on the labels.

Yes, the range is all gluten and dairy free. 

All products are batch tested for heavy metals and other contaminants, ensuring the products are as pure and clean as possible.
