Chocolate Orange Collagen Balls - Recipe

Happy Halloween! Here at Planet Paleo, we are all about the treats, and less about the tricks so we wanted to share the recipe for Collagen balls- one of our favourite healthy snacking options for you to whip up for your Halloween party or trick or treaters. There’s an array of healthy snacking options on the market these days, but they can cost a small fortune, have long ingredient lists and not taste that great, so making your own can be cost-effective, quick and often tastier too. We like to add a scoop of collagen to our snacks to up the protein content, making them more filling, and sustaining and helping to balance blood sugar levels from the quicker release sugars of the dates too. These collagen balls are rich in nutrients and provide protein not just from the collagen, but also from the nuts and chia seeds to support recovery. We’ve used our Active blend in this recipe - but you can use the marine/pure collagen powders and play around with other flavours too. Collagen powder is a great addition to baking or un-baking as the case is here, as well as adding to smoothies or your morning cup of coffee. Ingredients ½ Cup Cashews 12 Medjool dates 1 Scoop of Active Collagen Zest of 1 Orange 1 Tablespoon of Orange Juice (Fresh/cartooned) 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds 1 Tablespoon Cacao 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Pinch of Salt Instructions
  • Blend the dates in the food processor until they turn into a paste
  • Add the other ingredients and blitz until it all comes together
  • Roll into balls and put in the fridge or freezer to harden
You can always double the recipe to make a larger batch and store in the fridge or freezer for when you need a healthy snack quickly. The orange juice and zest really boost these bites, and chocolate orange is always a winning combination. These collagen balls work really well as a pre or post-workout snack or healthy sweet treat, they have quick-release sugars in the form of dates, as well as protein from the collagen nuts and chia seeds. The active collagen also has the addition of nutrients and herbs like turmeric and ginger to support healthy inflammatory response and recovery after exercise.
